Terry Foote

1965

2005

I don't know if anyone really remembers me but I am Terry Foote. If you do recall I went to Viet Nam in August 1966. To be honest I don't know our class casualty list. If anyone has it I would be interested in having it.

Of course we are all the same age but I have been married for 30 years and have one daughter (21) and one grandson (3). I won't go into the details but I have custody of my grandson so now I'm raising another child at my age. Trust me, they are tough to keep up with. I have a new found admiration for "non working" mothers. They work harder than I ever did when I was working.

I am completely retired. I was retired two years ago by my company due to health problems. I have already lost two discs in my back and have spinal stenosis. The company was really good to me after 31 years and I am now a 100% DAV (disabled American Veteran) and 100% disabled by Social Security. The only things I miss being able to do is playing softball and riding my Harley. I simply don't have the strength to do either because of my back.

So now I spend 24/7 with my grandson. I'm beginning to teach him how to play Tee Ball and various other things but mostly baseball. He is a typical three yr old. Sometimes he is the sweetest little boy I've ever seen then the next minute he turns into Mr. Hyde. I'm sure that was all due to his mother and her lifestyle. He is becoming a lot more stable since he moved in here so that's a plus.

I currently live in Columbus, Indiana. It's a very nice town of 35K people. We have all we need, even a couple of malls. It's about 35 miles south of Indianapolis between Indy and Louisville. The weather is slightly more extreme than Memphis which means there are only slightly differences. We get a little more snow than Memphis. We usually have 2-3 big snows each year. One this year was a record setter. We got 29" in one day. The only think I can say is thank God for a snow blower. Storm season gets pretty nasty. We are right in the middle of tornado alley coming north from Oklahoma to Iowa then it takes a sharp right turn and crosses Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. We don't get many around here but we do get some. I lost a garage and a huge old Maple tree when my house got clipped by one about 5 years ago. It was just a small one so it was really nice to see it go through. I got a new garage and roof for the price of my homeowners deductible so that wasn't bad.

But, that's the story of my life. I left the military started work in a factory making flexible packaging and was transferred to my present location in 1989.

Life is good especially since I was 55 I found out I would never have to work another day in my life and still be guaranteed $17K more than I made while I was working. I get to spend all my time with my grandson but I love it.
